19th May '09 - 'Not Everyone' Should Be Able To Get A Mortgage

Home loans could still be difficult to secure for individuals struggling with debt management.Mortgage lending rose by 29 per cent in March compared to February, the Council of Mortgage Lenders reveals.
But commenting on this, Timothy Lambert, sales and marketing manager at Ducalian, states that not everyone can get a mortgage "and quite rightly so", which could refer to the poor debt management prospects of some households.
He adds: "But for those with good credit histories there is no reason why they cannot get a mortgage," which may inspire some Britons to get their debt management on track so they have enough cash to put towards a mortgage deposit.
Debt management success could be even more important after the British Bankers' Association previously reported that 26,097 new mortgages were approved in March, a decline from the 28,024 given the green light in February.
However, it marked an increase from the average of the previous six months - 23,152.
